Driver distraction

Driving Blind campaign launched in 2023 to raise awareness of the risks of using a hand-held mobile phone while driving.

A new campaign launched in 2023, Driving Blind targets the use of a hand-held mobile phone while driving which has, over the past decade become a high-risk behaviour which is likely to contribute to road trauma in the NT.

The use of a hand-held mobile phone for any purpose while driving, distracts drivers from the driving task and keeping their eyes on the road.  When distracted, a drivers reaction time is reduced increasing the risk of collision with pedestrians and other vulnerable people, cyclists, other vehicles, and stationary objects.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the risks of using a mobile phone while drivers and encourages drivers to leave their phone alone.
