Information and privacy

We protect your personal information in accordance with the Information Act 2002 (NT).

Collecting your personal and health information

We may collect personal and health information about you, including your name, address and contact details when processing, assessing and managing your claim.


Other personal and health information may be collected from you and third parties including:


  • statutory and regulatory authorities
  • witnesses to the accident
  • insurance companies 
  • hospitals
  • medical practitioners
  • rehabilitation providers
  • employers. 


Collection of this information is prescribed by the Motor Accident (Compensation) Act 1979. If you do not provide this information, your claim may not be accepted.


How we use and disclose your personal and health information

The information we collect is used to process, assess and manage your MAC claim. For this reason, we may be required to disclose your personal information to third parties including:


  • statutory and regulatory authorities
  • insurance companies, 
  • hospitals
  • medical practitioners
  • rehabilitation providers
  • employers. 


We may also disclose your personal information to third parties such as our legal advisers, accountants, and investigation firms who we have engaged to provide services in relation to your claim.


MACC and its claims manager, TIO MAC, will not disclose your personal information for any purpose other than the purpose for which it was collected, or unless disclosure of any personal or sensitive information is required to be made to government, law enforcement, dispute resolution, statutory or regulatory bodies, or as required by law.


In a limited number of claims, personal information (inclusive of sensitive information) may also be disclosed to reinsurers and others who assist us in providing our services and who are located overseas. The countries to which this information may be disclosed will vary from time to time, but may include Canada, Germany, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Singapore and the United States of America. Wherever possible, we seek to de-identify any data that is shared with overseas entities.

Accessing your information

You may request access to your personal and health information collected by MACC or TIO, by contacting TIO directly. You may also request the correction of any errors to the personal or health information held by MACC or TIO MAC.
