A person who meets the dependency criteria set out in the Motor Accidents (Compensation) Act 1979 may be entitled to receive lump sum death benefits.
If a dependant meets the criteria set out in the Motor Accidents (Compensation) Act 1979, they may be entitled to receive lump sum death benefits as follows:
Death benefits are calculated at 156 times the average weekly earnings for the Northern Territory as published by the Australian Statistician.

You can make a claim by downloading and completing a
fatality claim form. Fatality claim forms are also available from hospitals in the NT. If you would like a claim form sent to you in the mail, please call the TIO MAC claims team on

After we have received your completed claim form, you will receive written notification from TIO MAC which will include your claim number and the name and contact details of your TIO MAC case manager.
Your case manager will be your first contact for managing your claim. They will call you to introduce themselves, answer any questions you may have and guide you through the claims process. If there is any further information we require, your case manager will let you know.
