What MAC may pay for

The MAC Scheme funds the necessary and reasonable costs of treatment and rehabilitation services where: 

• There is clinical justification for services. Treatment should be supported by a doctor, specialist referral or medical certificate for the period that treatment is provided.
  
  
• The treatment is provided by a service provider registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or the relevant state or national body, including but not limited to:  Exercise Sports Science Australia (ESSA), Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  
  
• There is evidence that the treatment is necessary and reasonable for the compensable injury or injuries and likely to promote recovery or independence, and the costs are reasonable, having regard to market rates.
  
  
• The treatment encourages participation and development toward independence and self-management, and treatment goals focus on optimising function and return to health.
