MAC Scheme benefits are available for as long as needed; sometimes for life for those with permanent, life-changing injuries.
Lifetime care and support benefits fund ongoing care and help for people who have been catastrophically injured.
In addition to all the necessary and reasonable medical and rehabilitation services, lifetime care and support includes services to assist with the necessary and reasonable personal and domestic support. For example, if you require assistance with your mobility, showering, dressing or with cleaning your home and maintaining your garden. Other benefits may include being supported in an assisted living facility.
People who have sustained serious life changing injuries can receive necessary and reasonable care and support, regardless of fault.
To be eligible for lifetime care and support benefits, specific criteria must be met. The types of injuries eligible for lifetime care and support benefits include:
To determine if the extent of injury and resulting impairment meets the eligibility criteria, reports from treating and independent medical specialists will be required.
An occupational therapist will visit you at home and recommend the support services necessary such as attendant care to assist you with daily living activities.
Your TIO MAC case manager will liaise with your treating team and specialists to determine your eligibility for ongoing benefits which will be confirmed with you by letter. If you
